How did I get started, you ask?  Before I was in the first grade, I started
collecting frogs in an open 55 gallon split drum.  I couldn’t understand why every
morning they were gone?  We had a black rabbit named “Tranquilzer”, and Dad
threatened to put him on the kitchen table if I didn’t keep him out of the house - I
didn’t understand what he meant.  We had 2 flying squirrels in the garage.  By
the 6th grade I had 4 guinea pigs, found a bat in a tree with two babies Mom
made me put back in the tree.  We had 2 pet skunks.  Collected what we called
crawdads from the creek.  Rescued a garter snake the boys next door were
using for target practice.  I taped  him up with scotch tape and hid  him in a shoe
box, till Mom rescued him from me and let him go.  The large dead red squirrel
my brother snuck into my bedroom was too much for Mom - she put her foot
down pretty hard.  After that, I had to have “normal” animals.

I joined the Marine Corps and my love for animals grew and continued to get me
in trouble.  I got a Samoyed puppy that got loose in the barracks.  I had a
European Albino Walking Catfish that got out of his tank and wound up down
the passageway - I later found out he had “help” getting loose.  I adopted  a
Kinkajou that was destined to die at 6 weeks of age, and raised him till he was
ready for a zoo a year later.
By the time I was in the Corps 10 years, I found my calling.  I bought my first show quality dog, a Miniature
Schnauzer, and learned how to groom for pet and show.  Years later, I am still  grooming.  I enjoy taking a
fur balls and making something cute out of them.

Ten years ago I became a serious breeder of Shih-Tzu’s.  Having learned all the ins and outs of quality
and care, I was challenged when I saw my first Coton de Tulear.  I was very impressed, and even more
impressed with the quality of breeders and  sensitivities to caring for and preserving the breed.  In the last
fours years, I have really grown into these furry folk, and they have adopted me.  I truly thank all of the
wonderful people in the Coton world who have taken me to this point.  I truly own dogs with wonderful
pedigrees that I owe to the people I acquired them from.

Why am I involved with this breed?  I have been a severe allergy patient since  high school.  Of my 30
years of military service, over 27 of them were spent on allergy  injections.  I have never been able to
resist an animal, so that made everything doubly hard for me.  Only certain breeds are “good enough” to
be around allergy patients, and I was thrilled to hear about a breed called the Coton de Tulear that might
be a companion.  I can truly say without a doubt this dog  has been wonderful for me, and I’m no longer in
shots.  It is my goal to tell other people that you can find a dog that “does it all”, and this dog does that.

Where do we go from here?  The sky is the limit.  I only hope I have something I can add back to the world
of Coton breeders who have been my guides and mentors.
